Retail Manager, Ornot

Showroom Manager

This is a special opportunity to get involved with San Francisco’s hometown cycling brand. If you’re personable, passionate about bikes, detail-oriented, and interested in building our community, this job is your destiny, Ornot.

Dear future team member,

  • Do you like bikes? (This one is kind of mandatory)
  • Are you stoked to work with a small team where your ideas can easily come to life?
  • Do you wish your job wasn't so corporate?
  • Interested in curating a different retail experience? (pop-ups, events, collaborations, parties)?
  • Are you open to teaching people how fun cycling in the SF / Bay Area can be?
  • Would you like riding your bike to be part of your job?
  • If you've always wanted a job where you get to work around your passion/hobby (riding bikes), this might be a perfect opportunity for you.

    Who is Ornot?

We are a small, but mighty, cycling apparel company based in San Francisco with much of our clothing produced right here in California. Check out what we've been up to lately on our instagram and website.

Our mission is to create sustainable cycling apparel and accessories that are made to last. The company was founded in 2013 to create minimally branded cycling apparel. This was a reaction to the lazy, logo-driven design that had dominated the cycling industry for years along with the “rules” associated with how to be a "cyclist". Now that many brands have followed suit with minimal branding, and placing an emphasis on the fun, casual side of cycling, our additional focuses on sustainability and responsible business practices are what truly make us stand out. We are always evaluating our supply chain, fabric choices, and production partners. We're proud to be the first, and only 1 of 2 Climate Neutral Certified cycling apparel brands. We hope that other companies continue to follow our lead.

    Opportunity

Join our small but mighty team as a full-time team member! First and foremost, you will become a part of our team. This specific position revolves around running our new (it’s still being built next door) showroom in the Inner Richmond. That means you will be responsible for stocking, merchandising, managing, and hiring part time employees and working in a customer-facing roll. You will also be in a unique position to interact with the local cycling community and help us envision and host events / rides. Since we are a small team, everyone wears multiple hats. So you'll often be interacting with other teams to lend a hand and vice versa. We're all in this together.

    Skills

    We are looking for:

    • People skills / outgoing / a natural conversationalist. You will be interacting with people, so this one is pretty important. We have great espresso machine to help out.
    • Self-starter and finisher. It sounds cliché, but you will be given a long rope, and with that rope comes responsibility. As you know, the hardest part of a project is the last 5%. You should pride yourself on buttoning everything up, and finding other people's buttons that are undone too.
    • People would describe you as incredibly organized. You can't stand a mess, and like solving deficiencies. We have about 300 products we keep in stock at our store so maintaining and improving upon our stock organization system is an important part of the role.
    • Details are very important. Execution and attention to detail should be part of your professional persona.
    • You too, geek out on efficiency. We love a good system and are here to support any ideas you have on improving showroom processes.
    • Tech Savvy. Because it's 2024 our tools are also online. You'll get to learn our systems and our tools (they're all user-friendly).
    • Must be able to work weekends.
    • This position is local in our showroom here in SF (just to be 100% clear).
    • Bike rides! We’d love to have you on these. We often have some of our best ideas on “work” rides.

    Responsibilities

    Basics

    • Become familiar with all of the Ornot product line and individual product features / use cases.
    • Operate Shopify POS, Google Sheets, and a few other simple apps / websites.
    • Talking to strangers and being a warm and welcoming ambassador of Ornot as well as the cycling community.
    • Very basic operation of an espresso machine. Mastery optional, but encouraged (we can show you). There's a healthy air of competition in the office for who can pour the best cap every day.

    Daily Tasks

    • Clean and organize the showroom (vacuum, product presentation, window cleaning, maintaining / cleaning espresso setup, etc.).
    • Greet and assist customers.
    • End of day restock of items sold throughout the day and price tagging items brought onto the floor.
    • Assist customer service and marketing with outgoing shipments.
    • Manage customer repairs spreadsheet and coordinate with the team on the repair process.
    • Manage customer custom orders (Quoc, Rene Herse, etc.)
    • Answering the phone and fielding basic customer service questions.

    Weekly Tasks

    • Create and place a showroom restock order with our warehouse.
    • Manage and place orders for stock of wholesale external products (lights, pumps, seat bag tool kits, tires, shoes, etc.).

    Bi-weekly / Occasional Tasks

    • Showroom inventory reset.
    • Brainstorming and spearheading organization of community activation (e.g. rides, events, and local collaborations / pop-ups.)
    • Backstock organization.
    • Managing showroom coffee ordering.
    • Seasonal showroom refreshes (changing displays / organization)

      Final words

This job isn't for everyone, we're looking for a special person for a specific position that combines high sociability with a love for organization and order.

We're based in San Francisco and this position will be in person at our HQ. We don't have Sr. or Jr. positions in our small company. We all work together to get things done.

To apply, fill out the form at this link and be sure to include the phrase "banana bread" somewhere in your submission.

Thanks for making it this far, writing job postings is not my favorite activity, I'd rather be riding.
